Minecraft is a sandbox video game originally developed by Markus Alexej Persson,a Swedish in 2009. However,it was called “Cave Game” at the first time.Later, in 2014, Microsoft(微软) paid Markus 2.5 billion dollars for the game and Mojang,the company which was developing it . Later,Microsoft let Jens Bergensten,a colleague of Markus,to continue to develop Minecraft. Up till now,Minecraft has sold more than 180’000’000 copies. A huge number,isn’t it?

One of the most valuable ores in Minecraft is diamond. It was once the rarest and strongest material. Players are able to create durable tools and armor using diamonds. Diamonds can also be used to create a block called “Enchantment Table”,where Players can grant their tools and armor “Enchantments”, or “Enchants” in short, which significantly boosts their usefulness. For example, an enchant called “Fire Aspect” grants a weapon the ability to set animals on fire and another one, “Fire Protection” will protect you from being burnt!

However, in Minecraft’s 1.16 update, Minecraft’s developers decided to add a material even stronger and rarer than diamond, named “Netherite”. It is a fantasy material in the Nether, one of Minecraft’s unique dimensions.

To “finish” the game, the player will have to travel to another dimension called “the End” and fight against the Ender Dragon. After the dragon’s death, a portal will generate in the middle of the End, leading back to the “Overworld”, where the player initially spawned. However, Minecraft doesn’t just end here. Players can still travel back to the End and find floating ships made out of purple blocks. And collect treasures such as Elytra and the head of the Ender Dragon.

Minecraft also have a variety of features other than just survival. Players can make digital circuits with a material called “Redstone”. Multiple combined circuits can create complex automation that helps players along the way, such as tree farms and mob farms.Some masters even created calculators and mini games with redstone.

In May 2016, a Chinese company named “Netease” announced a localized edition of Minecraft for China which was called “我的世界”. Although it is an official edition of Minecraft, it doesn’t receive as many updates as the original Minecraft.
